Course Description

Discover the joy of colour and learn how to mix vibrant, glowing hues in this one-day watercolour workshop. Perfect for beginners or anyone wanting to deepen their understanding of colour, this day will guide you through the essentials of colour theory in a fun and practical way. We’ll begin by exploring warm primaries — the sunny reds, yellows, and blues that bring energy and light to your paintings. You’ll create your own colour wheel and experiment with mixing a wide range of secondary and neutral tones, noticing how small changes make big differences. We will go on to put your new knowledge into practice with a simple, expressive landscape painting. You’ll use your warm palette and explore wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry techniques to capture atmosphere and light. By the end of the day, you’ll have: A clear understanding of how colour mixing works in watercolour Your own colour wheel and mixing charts to take home A finished landscape painting full of warmth and harmony The confidence to mix beautiful, glowing colours with ease What to bring: All materials are provided and included in the price so you just need to bring yourself; an apron and something to take your lovely painting(s) home with you would also be useful. If you would like to bring along some sketches or photos of your own to base your painting on then that's of course fine. Refreshments during the day are included (tea/coffee/biscuits). Your tutor: Ione is a landscape artist and tutor with over 30 years' teaching experience. Her aim in her teaching is twofold: for you to feel supported to develop confidence and skill in using the wonderful medium of watercolour; for you to have fun and spend an enjoyable, restorative time playing with colour.
