Course Description

Discover the joy of painting with watercolours – no experience needed! A beginner level day course, designed to give you time and space to explore the wonders of watercolour. No experience necessary. All materials are provided, as are refreshments. Join me for a relaxed and inspiring day where you'll learn the fundamentals of watercolour painting. This beginner-friendly workshop is perfect for anyone curious about watercolour – whether you're picking up a brush for the first time or looking to refresh your skills. What You'll Learn: Wet on wet Wet on dry Using water effectively Using wax resist and spatter to create some wonderful effects Create your own landscape and seascape painting to take home! This day course is a standalone course, but if you would like to develop your skills further, you may also wish to take the course on the following day: experimental techniques in watercolour. If you book both courses, you will receive a 20% discount on the total booking. The course takes place at my studio: Wath Court, Hovingham near York, YO62 4NN from 10am to approx 3pm. The entrance is round the back and there is plenty of parking on site. Please note the studio is on the first floor. What to bring: Please bring a packed lunch. If you would like a packed lunch provided for a small fee, please let me know. An apron and an A3 folder for your paintings would also be useful. If you have favourite brushes etc you would like to use, then by all means bring these along. If you are looking to make a weekend of it, there are two excellent pubs with rooms nearby: The Worsley Arms in Hovingham and The Fairfax Arms in Gilling East. About Your Tutor After thirty years as a secondary teacher working around the world, I decided to follow my true passion for painting. Since July 2024 I have been teaching art full time. My main aim in teaching is that you learn skills and techniques to enjoy painting in watercolour, and also that you have a restorative, relaxing time playing with colour and texture.
