Course Description

Overview: This full day workshop is suitable for you whether you have some experience of watercolour and would like to explore new techniques, or a beginner. Minimal drawing included! The emphasis of the workshop is very much on play and experimentation. After a time to explore and have a play with colour and techniques, you’ll be guided step by step to create two paintings: an atmospheric seascape painting of Whitby from Sandsend; an atmospheric seascape using wet in wet painting. You'll explore some fantastic and fun techniques (cling film, wax resist, salt and spatter) as well as practising more traditional washes and wet on wet painting. What to bring: All materials are provided and included in the price so you just need to bring yourself; an apron and something to take your lovely painting(s) home with you would also be useful. If would like to bring along some sketches or photos of your own to base your painting on then that's of course fine. Refreshments during the day are included (tea/coffee/cake) but lunch is not, so please bring a packed lunch. Practicalities: The full address is: Unit 3, Welburn Business Park, Welburn, York YO60 7EP. There is parking on site and the studio has full accessibility. Please advise any dietary requirements. The workshop runs from 10am to approx 3 pm. If you have any questions at all, please do email Your tutor: Ione is an landscape artist and tutor with over 30 years' teaching experience. Her aim in her teaching is twofold: for you to feel supported to develop confidence and skill in using the wonderful medium of watercolour; for you to have fun and spend an enjoyable time playing with colour (and water) in a non-judgemental environment.
