Course Description

Ink and Watercolour Landscapes: Building a Creative Toolkit Full Day Workshop (10am–3pm) Ready to take your ink and watercolour paintings further? This workshop is designed for painters who already have some experience of watercolour and ink and would like to develop a wider range of techniques, effects and creative possibilities. Throughout the day, we'll explore how ink and watercolour can be combined to create atmospheric landscapes full of colour, texture and movement. Through demonstrations, practical exercises and guided painting projects, you'll build a toolkit of techniques that can be used and adapted in your own work. We'll explore: Expressive mark-making Wet-into-wet techniques Acrylic ink and watercolour combinations Creating texture with granulation medium Soft horizons and atmospheric effects Building depth and interest through layers Using water, pigment and gravity to create unexpected and exciting effects Rather than focusing on copying a single painting, the emphasis will be on experimentation, exploration and learning how different techniques can be combined to create your own unique landscapes. You'll begin by exploring and testing techniques before developing them into finished paintings, making creative decisions about composition, colour and atmosphere along the way. This workshop is ideal if you have previously attended an introductory ink and watercolour workshop or already have some experience of painting with these materials. What to bring All materials are provided, so you just need to bring yourself. An apron and/or old clothes are recommended, along with something to take your paintings home in. If you have landscape sketches or photographs that you would like to use as inspiration, please feel free to bring them along. Please also bring a packed lunch. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available throughout the day. Your tutor Ione Harrison is a landscape artist and tutor with over 30 years' teaching experience. Her aim is to help painters develop confidence, creativity and personal expression while providing a supportive, enjoyable and inspiring environment in which to learn.
